Ok, so first of all, the most important thing about taking pictures is not the size of the camera, not the megapixels, or film quality or camera brand. It’s not even how much money you spent on the camera. The most important thing about taking a picture is how you hold your camera. “How you hold a camera? How no brainer can you get?” You might ask. Au Contraire. How you hold your camera can change your entire picture taking game.

When I see people taking pictures and holding their cameras wrong, I really want to go up and tell them what to do, but I’ve tried it and no one has ever thanked me…instead, they kind of act like they want to kill me for it, so maybe if I talk about it in a very safe place like this forum, everyone will know how to hold their cameras and I will finally be able to rest.

We’re mainly talking SLR type cameras here, because the bigger the lens, the bigger the impact on the shot you’re about to take and movement can make, but Point and Shooters, lend an ear, because this does apply to you as well.

Pick up your camera and hold it like you normally would take a picture. Your right hand is gripping the camera, index finger on the trigger…that’s the no brainer part, you’re right. But now look at your left hand and elbow. First put your left hand straight out in the air for 60 seconds. Do you notice any wavering or shaking? At any age, the answer most likely would be yes. Most people shoot with their left hand over their lens, pressing down on it, with their left elbow out and away from their bodies. If you hold your camera that way for more than a couple of seconds, the weight of your unbraced hand against the camera will cause the camera to shake, thus blurring your pictures. Your hand should be palm UP, underneath the lens of the SLR or DSLR, or under the body of the point and shoot, not on top of the camera pushing down on it. Your elbows should be in, bracing tightly against your body, so that if you have any shake, or if you’re shooting at an exposure slower than 1/60th of a second, you’re braced against your body, which is bigger and most likely less shaky than your hands. What about the strap? Some people like putting it around their necks, and while that’s a super safe way of holding a camera, it always makes me feel claustrophobic, but with your NEW way of holding your camera, if someone knocks it or you need your right hand for some reason, your left hand is there already underneath, holding the camera as backup. Woo Hoo! You’re now ready to take beautiful, vibrant, amazing pictures.

As the day nears there are many who are pro and against Valentine’s Day. But, I just say this to everybody, there’s nothing wrong with a day of extra special lovin’! I’m a woman whose statistics classify as part of the baby boomer generation. I’m hmm, a mature woman of a certain age. Yet, while age has a number, a state of mind is ephemeral. You are truly as young or as old as you feel. Obviously, your state of mind has positive correlations to age, you hopefully become more mature and more composed. But, that doesn’t mean you become dull. All you baby boomer women out there, have no shame in looking forward to Valentine’s Day!

In the past few years the baby boomer generation has possibly been sending more V Day cards to their grandchildren and relatives, and not their loved ones. Maybe they’re single, or maybe they’ve just been married so long they just don’t bother. Many single individuals of the baby boomer generation complain that most everyone their age is already in a committed relationship. Well, that is simply not true. You’d be surprised how many “single” people you can find that ‘are of your time’. Some people grumble about networking sites or V Day parties for singles above 50 … they call it unfair classification. Look, if you’re single and above 50, you’re single and above 50 … what’s wrong with that!

This weekend please forget all your anti V Day principles and inhibitions (well not ALL!) and do something special for a loved one. For the baby boomer generation I have good news. There are so many websites and other information outlets about gift ideas and romance.

What do you buy a fellow baby boomer for V Day?

I think gift baskets are a great idea. Buy stuff that will remind you of the 60s and 70s. Remember those tie dyed shirts and slinkies? Remember “Leave it to Beaver” and silly putty? Remember Tootsie Rolls and peace necklaces? You get the idea. Find things relative to the baby boomer generation. Dig in your stuff and pull out things from the past. Wipe off that dust and sit down with a loved one and reminisce. Baby boomer women; this can be with your loved one or your best girlfriend.

Another thing that most everybody, young and old, from or not from the baby boomer generation, likes is gift certificates. I go crazy for spa gift certificates. There’s nothing like a great day at the spa. While that may seem too exotic for you, give it a try, it’s so relaxing. If spas aren’t your thing then that is just fine. All women out there who don’t know what to buy their baby boomer men: offer to have all of their music updated to CDs or to MP3 format. Trust me, they’ll never do it themselves and it makes for a great, if not very romantic, gesture.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all Baby Boomers. Cheers to us!

Hole In One Insurance

Undeniably, everyone loves gourmet food and high-stakes contest. Some elite country clubs can meet the expense of these things but most golf courses can’t, which is why hole-in-one insurance has increased in popularity among golf tournament organizers.

This works similarly to health insurance. The customers in exchange of remuneration pay set fees in case inflated expenses from confinement or medical operations must be paid. The thing is patients pay health premiums in the event that they need expensive medical assistance while golf courses buy insurance just in case someone makes a million-dollar hole in one.

Hole in One Insurance makes it possible for people and organizations with tight finances to offer outstanding prizes to the players.

Costs of Hole-in-One Insurance

Hole-in-one insurers base their rates on the laws of probability. This proves that companies will always make money and earn profits in the long run regardless of whether or not someone at a particular tournament wins a large prize. But if in the event that a player legitimately won a $1 million in a hole-in-one contest, the tendency is for the insurer to offer less favorable odds.

Paying Insurance to Make Money

In order for these events to make sufficient profit, money must be willingly spent on golf outings. One idea that makes golf tournaments interesting and exciting is by purchasing prize insurance. It allows golf courses to charge more per player making it very easy to turn an investment into profit

There are more baby boomers alive today (78 million in the US alone) than any other people of a specific age demographic. As the baby boomer generation reaches retirement age (as of 2006 most boomers have passed the age of 60) and the lifestyle of the boomer generation changes, many will also be changing the type of house they live in. Psychological articles and statistics have shown that contrary to popular belief, the aging baby boomers are switching to smaller homes, and not splurging all their savings on showy McMansions. Choosing the right kind of retirement plan is fast becoming a primary addition to the elderly problems facing thebaby boomer generation; and the baby boomers generation is choosing to downsize.

Psychological articles and statistics commonly report the baby boomer generation is a relatively fortunate, prosperous, largely ‘middle class’ (or higher) group of people. Many of us recognize that we probably own many more and bigger “things” (houses, clothes, TV’s etc.) than we need to. These psychological articles explain that as humans we are constantly striving for more, and oftentimes will go to great lengths to achieve higher goals. Big houses used to top the list of the retirement boomersdesired possessions, but that’s changing because boomers are starting to accept that all they’ll do with a big house is find more “stuff” to fill it up with.

In numerous polls reported in psychological articles, almost two thirds of people said they preferred a smaller house with high quality products; and like prior times, the baby boomer generation are in the vanguard. While psychological articles report that change may not be easy, the retirement boomers facing elderly problems are the largest proponents of home downsizing. As the younger boomer generation sends their children off to college, we are squarely facing the reality of a huge home with an “empty nest. While the picture painted might seem melancholy, (psychological articles tell us as we age it gets harder to maintain big things), another one in the long list of elderly problems is not accepting that soon there may come a time when you can’t do things as well as you did 20 years ago. So what are doing; we are proactively preparing ourselves by downsizing. What a resilient group we retirement boomers are!

The baby boomer generation is facing elderly problems head on; finding small retirement homes not because we haven’t saved enough-although savings in America are the lowest they’ve been since the Great Depression-but it’s because small homes are easy to maintain and still suit the needs of the aging boomer generation. Smaller homes have greater benefits. The the baby boomer generation is spending and investing more in their “smaller” home; but by buying wisely, and selecting choice home décor and style pieces, the boomers retirement dwelling can be just as comfortable and luxurious as their former large homes. That’s why psychological articles report that smart retirement boomerselderly problems by buying smaller houses. It’s definitely the smart way to go.
